My current exploration is that of interpreting various parts of the body through the medium of weaving—”biological expressions” of my continued fascination with the body and its systems.

The resemblance between muscle and tissue structures and the warp and weft of threads is my inspiration. Using mainly wool and silk, I try to weave a bridge between the worlds of anatomy and art, bringing what’s normally inside us, out. In addition, certain pieces give voice to a condition that have been personally experienced, or witnessed. Pieces such as Scoliosis and Thyroid Unraveling embody this outward expression of an internal bodily condition. Other pieces such as Larynx or Hysterectomy examine disease states or surgery that I’ve seen or that have affected persons I’ve known. Allowing them to emerge/become overt, for me, has offered some cathartic reconciliation of their mental and emotional impact. My hope is that these pieces speak to the audience on some level, whether it be aesthetic only, or something deeper.
